It’s been a slow summer work wise. I’ve been staying busy but the money just hasn’t been coming in the way it was during the colder months. I made a wish recently (that I almost don’t want to mention out of fear of jinxing things) that work would pick up. It looks like I got my wish because I am busier than ever!
This week I am in Vancouver covering Vancouver Fashion Week for the Kit.ca! You can follow all of my adventures on Twitter and on Instagram (@simone_sd)
Between attending shows and doing my regular work for my clients, life has been keeping me on my toes! Amidst this chaos I am also working on my first story for a major newspaper. The joke here: I’m writing for the Business section. Yes, me. Making the switch from writing about fashion to discussing market stats and business development I can’t help but feel a bit like Becky Bloomwood – only with a much less impressive wardrobe. Team that up with the emails I receive regularly about reviewing the latest sex toy or self-help relationship manifesto, and suddenly my week feels pretty schizophrenic like, “Can someone please remind me what my job again?!!”
I’m trying to embrace it all because really grateful for the opportunities that have come my way recently. When I started writing this blog three years ago I wrote about wanting to attend more Fashion Week events and write for a an actual print publication. Even though things didn’t work out exactly how I imagined them and it’s taken me longer than I expected, I have to remind myself that I am doing both and it feels great. I’m writing this post as reminder that if you consistently work hard at something eventually it does start to pay-off.
In case you miss me, I’ll leave this for you guys:
Is your closet bulging but it never feels like you ever have anything to wear? When it comes to clothes, I’m all about a “less is more” Here are my 5 easy steps to a better wardrobe.
Y’all know I have a love/hate relationship with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). I was actually relieved to be missing all of the hub but this year but had so much fun writing this post about the Top 10 Red Carpet Looks From TIFF 2012. Now I totally want to add a lace dress and a new pair of black pointy toe-ed pumps to my wardrobe for Fall/Winter. Also, how amazing is that white dress Zhang Ziyi is wearing? Not only is Zhang totally gorgeous but I could totally picture that gown as my perfect “Futuristic meets Old Hollywood Wedding” dress (should I ever tie the knot)
If you’ve ever wanted to adopt the look of a wealthy, champagne swigging housewife/divorcee, here’s my step by step guide on how to get the look of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills right down to the monogrammed dog carrier. All you need are some hair extensions, a tan & some freaky plastic surgery and you’re set!
For those of you who are looking for love advice or maybe just enjoy “hard hitting journalism”, here’s 6 Love Lessons from Reality TV’s Best and Worst Couples. This is deep stuff people, real deep.
Congrats to Donna who is the winner of the Marc by Marc Jacobs Giveaway and Ayngelina who won the Late July CD contest!!
I’ll be back soon with another sexy giveaway (this time featuring a little something from Doc Johnson… woo hoo!) and hopefully lots of interesting stories from my week in Vancouver.
