Two New Lingerie Looks for 2015

Sexy Lingerie 2015Over the past year, I’ve found that is a great place to find everything from chic accessories to items for the home. I’m still swooning over the black and white chevron pillows I picked up from them for my bedroom revamp. However, it wasn’t until super recently that I discovered they actually have a decent selection of lingerie. Who knew, right?

To give you an idea of what they have to offer, offered to send me a couple of different lingerie looks to share with you: the Prestige Biatta Women’s Microfibre with Printed Mesh & Lace Babydoll and G-String Set ($35.19) and the Marilyn Monroe Envy Black Lace Balconette Chemise ($49.27)

First up is the Prestige Biatta Chemise. I was initially drawn to this chemise because it involves a bunch of my favourite things: black and white polka dots! Florals! Animal print! However, I was also worried that because of this, the piece may come off as a bit busy in person. You may disagree, but I actually like this set even more in person. I think it’s actually really cute and has a fun Betsey Johnson-ish of vibe.

The Prestige Biatta Babydoll is made of soft mesh fabric with lace trim. It features slightly padded bra cups, adjustable straps and is long enough to fully cover your butt (like in the product photo above.) It also comes with a matching black and white polka dot mesh g-string that’s surprisingly comfortable.

I was really impressed with the overall quality of this set. It can be difficult to know what you’re really getting when you order lingerie online, however the Prestige Biatta Chemise  is really well constructed and finished gorgeously. It fits great and is comfortable to boot. The Prestige Biatta Chemise comes in a variety of different cup sizes. I ordered a 34C. Although that isn’t my exact bra size, the cups fit well enough to be flattering and comfortable. Because of this, the Prestige Biatta Chemise gets two enthusiastic thumbs up. I feel confident and sexy in this set and can easily envision myself wearing it in the bedroom & beyond!

Next up is the Marilyn Monroe Black Lace Balconette Chemise. When I first saw this chemise on O.o, it was love at first sight. As you know, I love retro inspired lingerie. I’m also a huge fan of blush and black lace as a colour combo. This chemise has both! Oh & it’s from the Marilyn Monroe line of intimates which obviously appeals to my penchant for all things Old Hollywood. (If you go to their main site you can see the complete line. It’s gorgeous.)

I’m happy to report that the Marilyn Monroe Black Lace Balconette Chemise is just as gorgeous in person. I actually had a really hard time photographing it so I’m not sure if the photos really do it justice. It’s a stunner and definitely one of the prettiest pieces of lingerie to come across my desk.

The Marilyn Monroe Black Lace Balconette Chemise is made of soft black mesh and lace, with a contrasting blush hued waistband, garter ribbons and retro styled adjustable straps.

Everything about the Marilyn Monroe Black Lace Balconette Chemise is impeccably styled and executed. The quality is awesome and this is definitely something I would have purchased for myself (I kind of want all of the pieces from the line. has a few of them on sale! Sigh.)

Review | These Shoes Were Made for Dancing…Almost

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to putting together boudoir looks (i.e. lingerie or sexy costumes) the shoes are always an afterthought. I usually just grab my favourite pair of super high, black patent leather, stiletto pumps and call it a day. However, lately I’ve been thinking more about shoes and how they play into acting out your fantasies in the bedroom.

So, I was really intrigued when contacted me about trying and reviewing a pair of their shoes on the blog. is a 100% Canadian company based in Montreal that specializes in Alternative footwear. Think: anything from wild stripper shoes, platform goth boots to pin-up inspired pumps. If it’s out of the ordinary, they’ve got it! To quote their mission statement:

“We want you to have the power to be who you want to be whenever and however you want to. Want to feel sexy? Then be sexy. Want to rock 10” platforms to your high school reunion? Then rock them. The world is your paradise and if you’re planning on leaving a footprint behind, you better make sure it’s one people will remember you by.”

Amen to that.

However, although I’ve been known to rock some crazy cheetah print pumps on occasion, my shoe taste tends to fall more in the “ordinary” category. So, when it came time to choose my shoes I went with one of their more subdued options. Skinny Dippers, meet the Fabulicious Lip 139 Sandals by Pleaser.

The Fabulicious Lip 139 Sandals are a black patent, D’Orsay style, platform sandal with an adjustable ankle strap. Made of man-made faux leather, feature a 3/4 ” platform and 5″ heels. I was initially attracted to these shoes because their minimalist structure reminded a bit of a very sexed up version of the Stuart Weitzman “Nudist” sandal.

First of all, I was really impressed by the packaging. The shoes arrived in a blue “Fabulicious” box and came with a coordinating blue dust-bag for storage. FYI, when I travel I pack all of my shoes in dust bags, so this is definitely a plus in my books.

At first glance, the Fabulicious Lip 139 Sandals are very sleek, however also slightly daunting in height. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they have a nice cushy insole made of soft black suede material. Here’s a few photos of what they look like on.

Review | Oh La La Cheri Black Lace Chemise

I’m so excited to share with you guys one of my new favourite pieces of lingerie! Everyone, meet the Black Lace Chemise by Oh la la Cheri. When the cool folks over at Lovehoney offered to send me this beauty to review I was super psyched. A lot of my sexy lingerie is super structured (think corsets and bustiers) so I was looking forward to trying a softer look. This gorgeous lace chemise definitely didn’t disappoint.

Black Lace Chemise by Oh la la Cheri is made entirely of ultra soft, black stretch lace & mesh. Although it has a seam along the bust for definition, there is no underwire, padding or lining. It’s just soft black lace against your skin…and the effect is super sexy!

This chemise features adjustable straps that are trimmed with cute bow details, a delicate lace ruffle along the hem and comes with a black mesh thong.

photo-24Two words to describe this set: soft and comfortable.

I’m not sure where they found the lace to make this set, but I imagine it was spun by tiny faeries because it feels absolutely amazing to the touch. The material is super soft and delightfully stretchy, making for a very comfortable garment (I tried it on the other day and didn’t want to take it off!)

When it comes to affordable sexy lingerie brands, Oh La La Cheri is by far one of my favourites. I have several of their bra and panty sets which I really love. So, I’m not surprised that I love this set too.

As I mentioned before, the set comes with a matching black thong. However, unlike previous thong fails, you can actually wear this one comfortably. It’s made of the same super soft stretchy material as the chemise, has sturdy but soft and stretchy straps and a cotton gusset.

Polka Dots, Bikinis and Poolside Pin-Ups

In honour of the fact that they are now selling sexy swimwear, a few weeks ago the lovely people at Ohhh Canada sent me one of their bikinis to test out. As I’ve mentioned time and again, I have a long running love affair with all things retro when it comes to lingerie and swimwear. Therefore, when it came time to choose a swimsuit from Ohhh’s collection, the Flounce Retro High Waisted Polka Dot Bikini was a no brainer. I mean, look how adorable and deliciously retro it is!

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m loving the return of retro swimwear styles because they tend to be really flattering on curves. The Flounce Retro High Waisted Polka Dot Bikini is no exception. This retro polka dot bikini is sure to make you feel like a 1950’s pin-up while at the pool or the beach.

This saucy bikini features a black and white polka sot print which is accented by a thick black waist band (very figure flattering!), black straps and faux peplum bottoms. The top has an underwire and ties at the neck & back to ensure a customizable fit. Made of 80% polyester and 20% spandex, this suit is fully lined and water safe.

My first impression of this bikini is that the fabric is really nice. I’ve never purchased anything from this brand before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, I’m happy to report that the quality of the suit is really decent. The material is a good weight (not too thin) and nice & stretchy.

However, my only concern was the peplum detail. I think it looks cute on the model, however how would it translate to real life? Would it still look cute or would it look kind of ridiculous? The only thing to do was to take this bikini to the pool for some thorough testing!

A few Fridays ago I grabbed one of my friends here and headed down to one of my favourite poolside lounges for an after work drink and swim. She kindly volunteered to take these photos of me.

The verdict on the peplum bottoms: although they didn’t look ridiculous on me, I thought they were a bit much for fashion-challenged Sleepytown, so before going to the pool, I opted to tuck the ruffles in. The good news: you can easily tuck the peplum inside the legs of the suit and no one will be the wiser (my friend had no idea that the ruffles existed until I showed her!) If you get tired of the high waisted bottoms, I also discovered that you can fold over the black band for a more low-rise look. I don’t know if this was the designer’s intention, but these two additional options make the Flounce Retro High Waisted Polka Dot Bikini surprisingly versatile! (In the end though, I decided to stick with photographing the suit sans ruffle, with the high-waisted band in place, because that’s how I felt most comfortable.)

So, here you go – a couple of photos of me in a bathing suit on the internet. I even included a full body shot where I am doing what I like to call my “Joe the Intern pose.” Be kind my friends.

After spending an afternoon at the pool in the Flounce Retro High Waisted Polka Dot Bikini with my friend & a couple of very reasonably priced, ice-cold Mojitos, I kind of fell in love with this bikini.

First of all, it’s very comfortable. I love how the thick black waistband just sucks everything in. After 3 weeks off from the gym, travelling, being sick & eating my grandma’s home cooking, it’s nice not to have to worry that my abs are looking less than rock hard.

Secondly, this bikini wears well in water. The straps stay secure and there is no awkward sagging. The bottoms also stay in place and don’t ride up (always a plus!) My only (minor) concern with this bikini is that I found the cup size just a tiny bit too small for me. While the size Small bottoms fit perfectly, I could have used a size up in the top. However, with that said I was still able to wear the top and feel good in it.

Review | Burlesque and the Art of the Teese by Dita Von Teese

It’s been a busy few weeks! Since my last post about dating a younger man I’ve attended my best friend’s wedding, travelled to Kelowna, BC, spent a few days in Seattle and (thanks to travel & sleep deprivation) tried unsuccessfully to get over the cold I picked up along the way. But, enough about me!

Today I have something really cool to share with you. Earlier this summer, the lovely people at Burlesque Toy Shop sent me a copy of this gorgeous copy table book, Burlesque and the Art of the Teese by Dita Von Teese.

DigitalizarAs many of you already know, I’m a huge bookworm. However, despite being a sex and relationship writer by trade, my collection of “sexy” books is relatively small. I have a few things I’ve had to pick up for work, a few how-to sex guides that have been sent to me via the blog and one unread copy of 50 Shades of Grey that has been collecting dust. I decided that it’s time to change that! One of the things that I love about Burlesque Toy Shop is that they have an entire section of their website called “Library” which is devoted to erotic fiction, sex-positive non-fiction & guides and gorgeous coffee table books like the one above – all of which is music this bibliophile’s ears.

A fan of old Hollywood glamour and all things retro & sexy, Burlesque is something that’s always intrigued me. Maybe it’s my background in theatre & performance or the fact that I love how burlesque performance celebrates a wide range of female body types, however when it came to choosing a book to add to my sexy library, Burlesque and the Art of the Teese  seemed like a natural choice. Burlesque combines some of my favourite things: performance, lingerie, dressing up & sexual expression. It also doesn’t hurt that I have a girl crush on Dita Von Teese. We’re both petite women with very dark hair and light skin, and like me she has a background in ballet. So, you could say I identify with her look & her story.

Let’s take a look inside her book!

Dita 1

Simply put, Burlesque and the Art of the Teese by Dita Von Teese is a glamourous, sexy, colourful romp from beginning to the end.

Playing dress up has always been my favourite game. Like me, Dita grew up fascinated by black & white movies and old school Hollywood glamour – something that’s clearly evident in the photos contained in this book. Burlesque and the Art of the Teese is chock full of vivid, colourful, gorgeous photographs of Dita in her various incarnations. As Dita explains on the dust jacket, “I live out my most glamourous fantasies by bringing nostalgic imagery.” I can definitely relate to this statement because this is exactly how I feel when I put on a great piece of lingerie or decide to don a retro Playboy bunny costume. From glittery burlesque costumes adorned with sequins and feathers, and retro lingerie, to glamourous evening wear – this book basically reads like a wet dream of what I wish was in my boudoir wardrobe. A campy, sexy lion tamer costume? Gimme!

The beautiful photographs are interspersed with stories about Dita’s life & career with beauty and styling tips. I particularly like this piece of beauty advice: “There is no such thing as a plain woman. Every woman has a attractive points, so accentuate your best assets”

Dita 7

Annnnd, this book is actually a “2 for 1” type deal. Half way through, if you flip the book around, you get to experience the other half (“Fetish and the Art of the Tease“) which is devoted to Dita’s fetish inspired looks. Dita Von Teese made her start in the entertainment business as a fetish model, so it only seems natural that she’d include these photos as well. The photos in Fetish and the Art of the Tease are definitely a little bit more edgy and racy. Dita even gives some wardrobe tips…
