One of my favourite movies is Slums of Beverly Hills. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, it’s a quirky comedy about a lower middle class teenager (played by Orange is the New Black‘s Natasha Lyonne) living in 1976 Beverly Hills. I saw it when I was in my late teens and it’s remained a fave ever since.

There are so many awkward and hilarious coming of age moments in the film that occur between Vivian (Lyonne) and her oddball family- including one where Vivian discovers her older sister’s vibrator.

Although the film takes place in the 70’s, it came out in the late 90’s. Looking back, I realized that this was one of the first times I was ever exposed to anything to do with sex toys. The Sex and The City “Rabbit Habit” episode hadn’t aired yet and it would be years before I bought my first sex toy. However, the image of the large, ultra-straight, vibrator from Slums of Beverly Hills definitely stuck with me.

When a sex toy makes the claim that it’s better than chocolate, I’m interested. That’s why I was excited when the people at Nomi Tang contacted me about reviewing their new clitoral vibrator, the Nomi Tang Better Than Chocolate 2.

Nomi Tang Better Than Chocolate 2 is a luxury clitoral vibrator that’s made of sleek, body-safe silicone and is formed to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. It’s fully rechargeable by USB and can be submerged under water up to one metre. The Better Than Chocolate 2 is no slump: Cosmopolitan UK recently named it as ” the sexiest vibrator” for its sleek looks and innovative pleasure technology. It’s also the 2014 recipient of one of the world’s most coveted design awards, the red dot design award for product design. It goes without saying that I was super curious about this toy. 

 

What separates the Better Than Chocolate 2 from most other luxury clitoral vibrators is that it features an innovative Touch Sensor. Instead of pressing a button to increase the intensity of the vibrations, you simply run your finger along the touch sensor pad. And yes, I have a handy gif ready to demonstrate!

There’s a lot of things I really like about the The Better Than Chocolate 2:

–It’s sexy and feels very luxurious: Just by looking at this toy it’s easy to see why it has won awards. It’s small, extremely compact and ultra sleek. It has a velvety texture that feels great. It also comes packaged in a lovely satin lined gift box that makes you feel like you’re opening a very sexy gift.

–It offers strong, pin-pointed vibrations – As I’ve mentioned before, I love clitoral vibrators that are very precise (blame the fact that I am a Virgo!) like the We-Vibe Touch and Tango. The Better Than Chocolate 2 is great in this respect because it has a pin-pointed tip that excels in delivering precise stimulation to your clit. Also, the vibrations are nice and strong, which is a must for me!

–It’s discreet – As a friend of mine commented, it looks like a futuristic computer mouse. So much so, that it actually fooled Joe the Intern. 

However, what I thought I would like best about the Better Than Chocolate 2 – the touch sensor control pad – was actually what I liked least. Although the toy fit perfectly in my hand, I found it super awkward trying to move my finger up and down the pad. To access the most intense vibrations (what I usually enjoy) you have to hold your finger at the furthest point of the pad, which I couldn’t quite reach when using this toy. I’m not sure whether this is a design flaw, or just a case of me having really short fingers. Either way, it definitely took away from the experience.

Aside from my frustrations with the control pad, I still think the Better Than Chocolate 2 is a really nice toy. At the end of the day, for me it just comes down to personal preference. It’s like how I felt about the Lelo Siri – it’s a good toy, I just prefer my favourite clitoral vibrators like the We-Vibe Touch, The We-Vibe Tango, The Jimmyjane Form 2 or the Crave Duet more. It’s like chocolate: some people love milk chocolate (me), others dark chocolate. It doesn’t mean that one is better than the other, just different.

So, for me this toy isn’t “Better Than Chocolate” but rather “Almost as good as.” It’s like the dark chocolate, to my rich milk chocolate.

And now I’m hungry.

You know the saying, “Never go grocery shopping when you’re hungry?” It’s wise advice. Whenever I’ve gone to the grocery store hungry I always end up buying a bunch of stuff that I never would have bought otherwise, like a $30 wheel of brie, salted caramel vegan brownie mix and a 2lb package of Sriracha flavoured cocktail weenies. When I get home I realize I still don’t have anything to make an actual meal and end up ordering a pizza by default.  THIS is why I try not to avoid grocery shopping when I’m hungry.

I have a new one for you though: don’t shop for sex toys when you’re really horny. I speak from experience. A few months ago I was going through a bit of a “dry spell” sex wise. Coincidentally, this sexless interlude in my life coincided with having to select the next toys I would review as part of the California Exotics Sexpert Program. Hence, the reason I am now the owner of the Bendie Power Stud Clitterific aka a vibrator that looks like a giant, veiny, pink penis. I think it’s safe to say that this is the sex toy equivalent of the 5lb package of Sriracha flavoured cocktail weenies.

 When I chose this toy, clearly I had PENISES on my mind (big, rubbery, bright pink penises apparently). Just like one of those stories that you hear about people who’ve gone on benders only to realize when they’re sober that they’ve bought a shit ton of stuff from Sky Mall, I’d totally forgotten about the Bendie Power Stud Clitterific until it landed on my doorstep in a UPS box. “Oh right, so this happened” I thought to myself. What can I say? In my desperate state, this pink and veiny guy seemed like a good idea.

So what exactly are we dealing with here? The Bendie Power Stud Clitterific is 7. 5 inch long (6.5″ of which is insertable), flexible, anatomically inspired vibrator made of Pthalate-free PVC. It has three speeds that are easily controlled by a one touch button at the base. It’s powered by 2 AA batteries.

What makes this toy unique is that it features a flexible “bendie” shaft that you can bend and shape to the angle you prefer and spiky “studs” near the base that are meant to stimulate your clitoris, hence it’s name.

This is by far one of the most ridiculous toys I’ve ever owned so I had very low expectations for it. However, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. Although it’s battery powered and only has three speeds, the vibrations are surprisingly powerful and rumbly. As someone who tends to enjoy larger toys, the Bendie Power Stud Clitterific actually has a decent girth and length to it. It works well as both a clitoral stimulator and as an insertable toy. There’s also the option of turning off the vibrations completely and using this as a straight up dildo.

Also, you can bend it into all kinds of weird shapes. Behold it’s bendiness!

After I tried the toy in it’s original shape, I bent it forward and found that this new shape was able to stimulate my g-spot nicely. The downside: a bent pink penis looks like a bent pink penis. In other words, it’s not the sexiest looking toy in the world. However, this didn’t stop me from bending it into all kinds of bizarre positions while I was writing this review. I mean, how could I resist? It was just too much fun.

A few years ago I mentioned how much I love my We-Vibe Touch vibrator (and more recently, the We-Vibe Tango), however I never wrote a full review. To summarize, The We-Vibe Touch is just an all around, really great small clitoral vibrator that can be used for solo and couples play.

I should start off my mentioning that my older We-Vibe Touch is one of my favourite vibrators PERIOD and it’s one that I often recommend to people when they’re looking to purchase their first sex toy  or are on the hunt for a vibe that totally rocks. At 4 inches in length, the We-Vibe Touch is a compact clitoral vibrator that has all the hallmarks of a toy box favourite: it’s made of 100% silky smooth body safe silicone, it’s rechargeable by USB, it’s waterproof and it offers toe-curlingly intense, deep, rumbly vibrations. The updated version of the We-Vibe Touch is everything that the original was and then some.

Here are a few things I absolutely love about the We-Vibe Touch:

–It’s ergonomic: The toy is curved to fit perfectly in your palm. The indented part of the toy surrounds your clitoris, providing thrilling, rumbly sensations. If you’re looking for even more precise stimulation, you can use the pointed tip directly on your clit for a super intense experience.

–The vibrations rock: You know how I often complain about how some toys have very weak, buzzy vibrations? Well, the We-Vibe is anything but. In fact, the vibrations offered by this toy are pretty much perfect. With an easy to use one button control and  8 orgasmic speeds and patterns, you’re bound to find one that makes you squeal.

As with all We-Vibe products, the quality is really great and cleans easily with toy cleaner or antibacterial soap & water.

The new We-Vibe Touch is basically identical to the original, however it’s a quarter inch longer. Whereas the original was made of shiny silicone that had a tendency to collect lint like crazy, the updated version is made of a velvety silicone that doesn’t have the same issue. Hooray! I don’t know about you, but link isn’t exactly sexy so I’m thrilled that they made this change. Other than that, I didn’t really notice any key differences. The original was awesome and so is the updated version. 

The only potential drawback of this toy is that like it’s sister toy the We-Vibe Tango, the charging system is a little finicky. The toy charges via USB and the magnet that attaches the toy to the cord often comes loose if you don’t have it in exactly the right position. It’s not the end of the world, but I’d love to see We-Vibe improve upon this in future versions of the toy.

When it comes to my sex toy reviews, usually Joe the Intern usually likes to step in to say a few words. However, Sleepytown has been experiencing a bit of a heatwave lately. Combine that with the fact that we all just got new patio furniture and I’ve noticed that certain employees at Skinny Dip headquarters have adopted a bit of a diva like attitude. Ahem.
