Need a Last Minute V-Day Gift? Send a Pantygram

Happy Valentine’s Week! As much as I have a habit of writing snarky Valentine’s Day blog posts from year to year, I actually love Valentine’s Day in all it’s pink & red puffy heart glory. Yes, behind my semi-jaded sex blogger facade lies a hopeless romantic. However, my attempts at getting other people in the mood for Valentine’s Day sometimes fall flat – for example, last year when I made Fitness Guy a plate of heart shaped chocolate strawberries, which ended up looking more like lumpy, brown gobs. File this under, “When making stuff you find on Pinterest goes wrong.”

In general I think women are pretty good at hinting at their partners what they’d like for Valentine’s Day – whether that’s flowers, jewelry or just a quiet night in. However, guys aren’t as easy to read and are often completely neutral when it comes to the holiday. Hence, the reason some of us end up in awkward situations like what I described above. Although, I’d argue that if someone is legitimately into you, they will appreciate your questionable confectionary skills – even if the end result looks like turds on a stick. With that said, I’m sure there are many women out there wondering “what do you get a dude for Valentine’s day?”

Enter Send a Pantygram, a company designed with this dilemma in mind. Their answer? Red panties. Yes, you read correctly.  Send your partner underwear. Women’s underwear.

Send a Pantygram is a service that allows you to send your partner a pair of lacy, red panties. Your partner then receives the item in a discreet package with a note attached that directs them to a web page where they enter the verification code and gain access to a private, sometimes suggestive message from his loved one.

So, why panties? Debbie Augustine, founder of, started her company because she was inspired by a pair of panties she mailed to a boyfriend 20 years ago. When Augustine ran into the guy years later, he was still raving about the experience, so she decided to turn her concept into a business.

Since Send a Pantygram has launched, Women have sent panties all over the world to boyfriends, fiancés and husbands stationed in Iraq, traveling on business to Bermuda, France, Greece, Germany, Japan, Puerto Rico, Romania, London, China, Korea and more. The cost of a Pantygram is $24.95 + shipping.

According to Neil Chethik, author of VoiceMale—What Husbands Really Think About Their Marriages, Their Wives, Sex, Housework and Commitment (Simon & Shuster), what men really want for Valentine’s Day isn’t  “another tie or gadget. They would like their partners to initiate romance. They like it when their wives actually think about sex, and even plan it.” I think this sentiment applies to both genders.

In other words, we all want to feel sexy and loved. The Pantygram is designed as  a symbol of the continuing physical attraction you have towards your partner. According to Send a Pantygram, feedback has been very positive and men absolutely love receiving them (however, I’m sure there are female same sex couples who might enjoy this service too.)

Although I’ve never sent my underwear to anyone, I’m a huge proponent of red lingerie and like the idea of a small sexy gesture that lets your partner know they’re desired. In other words, it makes your partner feel like Tom freaking Jones, legendary recipient of women’s panties… or whatever the sexy, modern rockstar equivalent is.

To get a male opinion I asked Joe the Intern to share his thoughts.

Thanks for your feedback Joe!

If you’d like to brighten someone’s week with a pair of lacy, racy red panties, Send a Pantygram is offering $5 off for all Skinny Dip readers if you use the code save5now at checkout.

What do you guys think? Would you enjoy/use this service?

Show & Tell | Some Like it Hot

Red has been one of my favourite colours for a long time. When I was a tween I was super obsessed with this Canadian TV show called Street Legal – Canada’s answer the LA Law.  My favourite character was Olivia Novak – a whip smart, tough as nails, young attorney with a penchant for red power suits. I was mildly obsessed with Olivia, because here was a female character who not only had brains and sex appeal, but refused to take BS from anyone – something I had never seen on TV before. Those red power suits must have made an impression on me because, since then I’ve associated the colour red with sex appeal and power. Red is bold in it’s simplicity. It speaks for it’s self.

So, it’s probably not surprising that I’ve been looking to add a really nice red bustier to my lingerie collection for a while. I’ve had my eyes on the Some Like it Hot Bustier and Thong set by Seven Til Midnight for over a year. When the lovely people at Lovehoney offered to send me one to try I was so excited!

The Some Like it Hot Bustier & Thong Set has all the appeal of a corset without the potential discomfort. Made with bright red stretch lace, this set features lightly padded underwire cups and plastic boning to give the illusion of a more defined hourglass shape without manipulating your body with uncomfortable waist reduction. Instead of straps, the bustier has a flirty halter necktie which gives you a slight push-up effect in the boob area. The bustier features ruffle trim, detachable bow detailed garters and a hook & eye closure at the back. There’s also a little diamond studded detail on the bust (something that could easily be removed if diamonds aren’t your jam.) It also comes in a plus sizes.

Tow things really surprised me about this piece. First of all, it’s a bit more ruffly than I expected from the photo. This doesn’t bother me, however if you don’t like ruffles it might be an issue for you. Secondly, it’s incredibly soft. As I’ve mentioned before, when you’re ordering lingerie online you never quite know exactly what you’ll get. I’d prepared myself for the fact that this might be one of those pieces that looks gorgeous in the photos but is super stiff & itchy in person. However, in reality the red lace is really stretchy and extremely soft to the touch, making for a very comfortable fit.

Although the Some Like it Hot Bustier & Thong Set exceeded my expectations upon arrival, I found the hook and eye closure at the back a little awkward to do up solo. I flipped the bustier around and did up as much of the bustier as I could from the back, however I had to ask my Mom to help me do up the last few hooks & eyes. Yes, my Mom. Nothing kills the sexy vibe like having your Mom help you into your lingerie. It’s times like these when I really appreciate lingerie with zippers.

Awkward hooks & eyes aside, this piece has something that many lingerie sets don’t: a decent pair of panties. No weird cloth triangle & glorified dental floss here folks. The Some Like it Hot Bustier Set comes with a normal looking thong that is ultra soft, covers your lady bits and is comfortable to boot. I actually like the thong so much that I’ve worn it a couple of times on it’s own.

Also, I should probably mention that the bow details on the detachable garters are really, really pretty. The set doesn’t come with stockings, but you could easily match most stockings to this set.

Now for the moment of truth! What does it actually look like on?!

Show &Tell | Wild at Heart

It’s no secret that I love leopard print. I wear my beloved leopard print pyjamas so much that my family actually staged an intervention. Between my pyjamas, lingerie, a dress, some smoking slippers, a gorgeous purse and a pair of zebra print Michael Kors pumps, my closet is starting to look like a safari. It’s not just me – log on to Pinterest and you’ll find tons of animal print pieces for Fall. Lately, I’ve been looking for something just a bit sexier than my usual animal print pyjamas, so I was super thrilled when Lingerie Canada offered to send me this gorgeous leopard print Kimono, Bralette and Thong Set by Dreamgirl (Thank you!!)

I like to joke around with people that because of my Eastern European heritage, it’s my birthright to wear as much animal print as possible. When done right, a touch of animal print can look really chic. In fact, this quote by Jenna Lyons, the president and creative director of J. Crew, is pretty much my whole fashion philosophy in a nutshell. If the tastemakers at J. Crew give their thumbs up, it must be OK, right?!

With that said, when it comes to animal prints, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. To avoid looking like you’re ready to party with the cast of Jersey Shore, it all comes down to moderation. Although I loved how the lingerie set looked in the product photos, I was worried that maybe a leopard print robe and matching underwear might be too loud. However when I received the set in the mail (and tore open the package excitedly – yay, new underwear!), I was very pleasantly surprised.

The Kimono set set comes with a lace bralette, a lace boys-cut thong and a sheer, animal print chiffon robe. Both the bralette and the thong are made of scalloped stretch lace and trimmed in silky, chiffon leopard print. The bralette has adjustable straps and a hook & eye closure in the back.

No one enjoys nipple itch, so I am happy to report that the lace on the bra is ultra soft and not at all scratchy. Same goes for the thong – it’s actually really comfortable. The lace is super soft and there is zero awkward wedgie action. Unlike some thongs that come with lingerie sets, this thong is anything but flimsy. The boys-cut/hipster style is very comfortable and actually looks & feels super sexy on.

In my opinion there are both “good” and “bad” animal prints. I was pleased to discover the print on the robe was really nice. It’s made of a sheer chiffon material and drapes really nicely.

I love that the bralette and panties are so comfy that I could easily wear them everyday. Although the bralette doesn’t provide that much support (especially if you’re on the bustier side) it’s perfect for wearing around the house while I work and would also look super cute paired with some of my summer tanks that dip low around the arms. Note: I’m a 32C and while I found the bra supportive enough for lounging at home and light wear, women with larger busts might prefer a robe set that comes with an underwire bra or more support.

The robe is super comfortable as well, however it is pretty sheer. Since we’re heading into the colder months in Canada (or “Snuggie Weather” as I like to call it), I will probably save the robe for special occasions or warmer weather.

Now for the moment of truth. What does it look like on?!

Review | Silver Satin & Black Lace, Oh my!

If you’ve read any of my recent lingerie reviews, you might have noticed that I’ve been on a bit of a corset and bustier kick lately. I’ve tried an Irish inspired corset, a Playboy bunny style bustier body-suit and a pretty Victorian style corset that made me feel like I belonged in a Royal court. I’ve been on a exploratory lingerie mission, trying new things in hopes of discovering what I like & don’t like. When the fabulous people over at Lovehoney sent me over the Silver Satin & Eyelash Lace Overlay Corset, I knew I’d found a winner.

The Silver Satin & Eyelash Lace Overlay Corset is a bustier style corset made with soft silver satin with a delicate black eyelash lace overlay and trim. Like your typical corset, it has plastic boning to help shape your curves, while the bustier-like underwire cups help give your bust lift and support. It comes with a set of black detachable straps and garters, as well as a matching silver satin thong. The corset also comes in Plus Sizes. I used the photo of the Plus Size corset because it gives a full frontal view of the garment. I also love how strong, sexy and confident the model looks! 🙂

When it comes to quality and fit, ordering lingerie online can sometimes be a bit of a crap-shoot. I’d never tried anything by iCollection before so I had no idea what expect. However, when I opened my package from Lovehoney, I gasped audibly. Simply put, this is a gorgeous piece of lingerie. The silver satin is really nice quality without being too stiff and the black trim is so incredibly soft. The whole garment is lined with ultra-soft material. What I love most is how the black trim contrasts against the silver satin. As someone who owns a lot of brightly coloured lingerie, I really love how simple, elegant and classic this piece is.

The corset laces up from the back with black satin ribbons. One of the great things about this piece is that it is highly adjustable. When I first pulled it out of it’s package I was worried that it might be too small, however after loosening the ribbons a bit I was able to find the right fit for me. As you can see from the photo, there’s also a modesty panel that you can either leave in place or push to the side, depending on whether you want your bare skin to show through behind the laces.

Now for one of my favourite features of all…a side zipper! You may remember me mentioning my lingerie woes and how it can be difficult to put on a corset by yourself. The side zipper on the Silver Satin & Eyelash Lace Overlay Corset definitely helps with this issue. Instead of having to deal with awkward hooks & eyes, you can adjust the ribbons to get the right fit & then just zip yourself up. Easy! I also like how the exposed zipper adds to the vintage inspired look of this piece.

The only thing that I don’t completely love about this piece of lingerie, is the matching thong that comes with it. The thong is made of the same material as the corset and basically consists of a small triangle with pieces of elastic attached. The thong does not have a gusset, which means it’s not suitable for extended wear. I know these panties probably aren’t meant to stay on very long, but it would have been nice if they were something I could wear anytime. Instead, these will probably end up at the back of my lingerie drawer & eventually migrate to the great big lingerie pile in the sky. Including this thong with the set just seems like an odd choice because it doesn’t live up to how awesome and gorgeous the corset is. Even Grumpy Cat thinks so.

Despite the minor thong fail, I really, really love this piece- so much so that I think it’s definitely going to find it’s way onto my list of favourite products I’ve reviewed in 2013. However, the final question is – what does it look like on?

Show & Tell | Keep Calm and Wear a Corset

Over the past year, I’ve been fortunate to work with some really great brands from the UK like Rocks Off and Lovehoney to name a few. Vibrations Direct is another fab UK brand based out of London. From bondage kits and lingerie to designer sex toys— Vibrations Direct carries 1000’s of products to tickle your fancy and get the most out of your sex life. When they asked me if I would like to review one of their pieces, I was immediately drawn in by their selection of sexy lingerie – in particular the corsets.

I eventually settled on this gorgeous nude coloured, “Victorian” inspired Ivory Grace Corset by Sweetstreak. Since most of my lingerie is either dark colours or vivid brights (like red or pink), I loved the subtle colour and delicate details of this piece.

The Ivory Grace corset is a Victorian inspired corset made with white and gold jacquard material and decorated with frill edging at the top and bottom, along with pretty bows. The material is 90% polyester and 10% spandex to allow for some give. The corset features flexible boning and a lace up back to shape your figure and  create an hour glass effect.

The corset is really pretty in person, however as you can see by the photos below, the fabric isn’t a nude or blush shade at all, but rather yellow and white with white ruffles. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing (it’s still a really pretty piece), it’s just completely different than what I expected based on the product photo.

Now for the moment of truth! Here is what the corset looks like on. The corset fit great and was very good at hugging my curves in all the right places. Although I could have cinched in the waist more to give more of the effect shown in the product photo, doing so wasn’t very comfortable. I wanted to still be able to breathe 🙂

When it comes to lingerie, I’ve discovered that corsets generally aren’t the most comfortable garments. However, you sacrifice comfort for the look. This piece made me feel sexy, supported and definitely helped me stand up straighter (ha!)

Back in the day, women of means would often have a maid who would help them get into their corset. Now I can see why – putting on a corset by yourself is a bit challenging. The Ivory Grace can either be done up by lacing up the back or by using a series of metal hooks & eyes located on the front. To get the best fit, I would suggest putting it on then using the laces at the back to adjust the garment. Once you have the perfect fit, you can leave the corset done up and then just enter/exit the garment from the front.

I had a lot of fun playing dress up in this piece. Maybe it’s the yellow & white jacquard print, or the fact that it was sent to me from jolly old England, but I felt regal in this piece…almost like I was ready to go hang out in Buckingham Palace & have tea with the Queen. Instead, I just had an awkward tea-party for one in my underwear.

Now, for the bad news. Unfortunately sometime between when I received the corset and wrote this review, Vibrations Direct stopped carrying it on their website. The good news is that they have lots of other sexy lingerie. Here’s a few pieces that I’ve been eye-ing.

1. Seven Til Midnight Scene Stealer Bra Set.

2. Seven Til Midnight Naughty Little Secret Bustier.

3. Seven Til Midnight Veronica Bustier.

Which one do you like best?

*Thanks to Vibrations Direct, this lovely corset was provided to me free of charge in exchange for my honest assessment of the product. All views are my own because that’s how I roll.
