A Cozy Holiday Giveaway From Pure Romance

After writing this post about my impending retirement from sex blogging, I’ve more or less hung up my adult product reviewer hat. Celebrating Galentine’s Day with Gifts, Good Reads + a Giveaway

Anyone who has spoken to me in the past two months is probably aware that I’ve become completely obsessed with the show Parks and Recreation. People have been recommending this show to me for years – and now I finally understand why. I mean, there’s just so much to love: the witty humour, endearing characters, Leslie Knope’s undying chutzpah and determination to make the world a better place. December was a weird month, and Parks & Recreation was what got me through on those 48hr hangover days when all I could do was lie horizontally and seriously question my life choices.

Anyway, Leslie Knope is an avid celebrant of Galentine’s Day, so I thought it was only fitting that I write my own Galentine’s Day post (plus, I wanted an excuse to share these Parks & Recreation themed Valentines because they are everything.)

Although I wish I could make personalized Valentine’s for all of you (a la Leslie Knope) and present them over waffles, instead I’ve put together a bunch of female centric “Galentine” gifts to make your life more fun & enjoyable.

When it comes to treating myself, I love to indulge in new reading material. Although Leslie Knope tends to favour books written about famous political figures like Eleanor Roosevelt and Hilary Clinton, I think she’d appreciate these female penned titles. All of them are great reads and inspiring in unique ways.

–Yes, Please by Amy Poehler – A no brainer. Amy Poehler is delightful and this book is the perfect warm & fuzzy, feel good read.

–Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham – If you like GIRLS or Dunham in general, you’ll enjoy this collection of relatable essays chock full of awkward moments that are as cringe-worthy as they are familiar.

–#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso – Leslie Knope is the ultimate #GIRLBOSS. This book by Nasty Gal’s CEO, Sophia Amoruso is full of motivational pep talks and business advice for ladies looking to take over the world.

–Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay – I’m totally obsessed with Roxane Gay’s writing and this book of essays. Gay tackles everything from Twilight and competitive scrabble, to gender and race. A must-read for everyone regardless of whether you have a vagina or not.

–I Forgot to Be Famous by Almie Rose – My lovely friend Almie wrote this awesome collection of essays about love, dating & LA. After reading Lena Dunham’s book, I still prefer I Forgot To Be Famous. Not only is Rose funnier in general, but I Forgot To Be Famous has all of the awkward, twenty-something insights of Not that Kind of Girl, minus the hype and privilege. I also have first-hand knowledge that the author is a lovely human being.

My friends are an awesome and talented bunch. I feel like the often unlucky in love Anne Perkins would totally dig these books written by two smart women that I’m honoured to know.

–Respected: How One Word Can Change More Than Just Your Love Life by Akirah Robinson – Heartbroken? Lonely? My friend Akirah Robinson believes that you can heal your brave heart.”When it comes to finding love, it seems like everyone has an opinion. Rather than joining the loud choir of love experts and dating gurus, Respected helps women bolster their sense of self-worth and as a result, become better prepared to participate in healthy romantic relationships.” Sounds good, right? Fun tidbit: yours truly contributed to a chapter.

–Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda by Tara Lee Reed – Hey, remember those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books from childhood? Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda takes this concept to a whole new level as an interactive romantic comedy with 60 different Sometimes Happily After Endings. The perfect read for anyone who loves witty one-liners and has ever yearned for a romantic “do-over.”

Parks and Recreation’s April Ludgate hates a lot of stuff. You know what bums me out? Bad sex. That’s why last year I worked with one of my favourite companies, Lucky Bloke, to create the Skinny Dip “Her Pleasure” condom and lube sampler.

Review & Giveaway | Win the We-Vibe 4 Couples Vibrator

A few weeks ago the super lovely people at We-Vibe sent me this amazing package with the brand new We-vibe 4 + the “We-Vibe book of Delights” (a gorgeous & sexy instructional manual), a bottle of lube & a sexy “do not disturb” sign. Everything was wrapped up in pink tissue and tied in a pink bow. Clearly, We-Vibe is a company after my own heart.

A few weeks ago I started working on a major semi-top-secret writing project and with the holiday season in full swing, things have gotten a bit backlogged over at Skinny Dip headquarters. However, I finally had a chance to try the We-Vibe 4 and now I’m ready to share.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the We-Vibe, it’s a vibrator that can be worn while making love. Yes. At the same time. Inserted gently into the vagina, the top part provides toe curling vibrations to the clitoris, while the bottom half stimulates the g-spot while you have sex with your partner. FYI – The We-Vibe is also a really fun toy to play with solo and is a unique alternative to your typical rabbit vibe. Since I am currently without a partner in crime, I can attest to the fact that you don’t need to have another person in bed with you to enjoy this toy. The We-Vibe 4 is also completely rechargeable and comes with a charger & docking station/storage case.

A few years ago when I first started writing about sex toys, I became completely obsessed with the We-Vibe. I’ve since been “following” the toy through it’s various incarnations. A few years later and I’m now the owner of a We-Vibe 2, a We-Vibe 3, and now the We-Vibe 4 (see, I told you I was obsessed.) Although the We-Vibe 2 left a lot to be desired for me, I actually really enjoy the We-Vibe 3. So, I was curious to see how they had updated it.

The most noticeable difference between the We-Vibe 3 and the new We-Vibe 4 is the style and texture of the toy. First of all, the We-Vibe 4 is more compact with a less bulbous bottom half (providing more room for the penis). Secondly, whereas the We-Vibe 3 was made of shiny silicone that was prone to collecting dust and lint, the new version is made of silky soft silicone that has a gorgeous skin like texture (total win!)

The We-Vibe 4‘s new compact form is designed to hug the body to deliver stronger, more intense vibrations. The curved clitoral stimulator follows the curve of her body and gently rests between the labia, while the stiff mid-section ensures a snug fit. The redesigned G-spot stimulator sits in place behind the pelvic bone, increasing stability and comfort for both partners. Considering one of the issues I had initially with the We-Vibe 2 was that it slipped out easily, a snugger fit is a welcome update.

To give you an idea of how the two versions compare shape-wise, here’s a photo of them side by side.

As you can see, the insertable portion of the We-Vibe 3 is a little bit longer than the We-Vibe 4. Although I love the updated look and stronger vibrations of the We-Vibe 4, I actually prefer the extra length on the old version. Because my g-spot is set quite far back, I found that the older version fit my anatomy better and was less prone to slipping out. With that said, when playing solo I still can’t go completely hands free with either version, and have to gently hold the toy in place. Despite that small hiccup, the We-Vibe 4 feels really awesome.
