Lingerie Review | Retro High Waisted Knicker & Bra Set by Rene Rofe

When asked to describe my personal style, my best friend said without hesitation, “Bold!” It’s true – when it comes to what I put on my body, I don’t like to fade into the background. With that said, I love bright colours and eye-catching prints as much as I love basic black (I’m pretty sure my alter ego is a goth.) My main criteria for things I love is that they are bold in their simplicity – whether that’s a Pucci print mini-dress or classic black pencil skirt, is completely negotiable.

So, you may have noticed that my past few lingerie reviews have been very bright, pink and full of bells & whistles. I recognize that not everyone loves neon pink satin and lace as much as I do, so I thought it would be fun to mix it up and review something that’s a bit more subdued. Luckily the awesome people at Lovehoney offered to send me this gorgeous black lace retro-inspired bra and knicker set from Rene Rofe to try.

Rene Rofe 1
The Retro High Waisted Knicker & Bra Set by Rene Rofe  is a sheer, black stretch lace sexy lingerie set that includes a soft cup bra and matching boys-cut bottoms with a cute hook and eye detail. The triangle bra features adjustable straps and a hook & eye closure at the back.

Although I’ve reviewed my fair share of lingerie, Rene Rofe was one of those brands that I was familiar with but had never tried. I’d read mixed reviews from other bloggers about the Rene Rofe line, so I was super curious to see if the actual lingerie held up to the sexiness of their product photos.

And voila! Here is what the Retro High Waisted Knicker & Bra Set by Rene Rofe looks like in person. As you can tell from the photo, there isn’t much to this set. It’s very sleek and minimal. I wasn’t sure what to expect fabric wise (would it be stiff? itchy? cheap feeling?), however I’m happy to report that the set is made of shockingly soft stretch lace. It’s a 90% nylon, 10% spandex blend that feels really great against the skin.

One word to describe this set: comfortable.

The fit of the bra is similar to a string bikini top and features lace that is completely sheer. As a 32 DD, the size small in this set fit my bust, but it was definitely really revealing! Not in a bad way though. Although the bra doesn’t offer much support (I think one would be more apt to call this a “bralette” rather than a bra), it’s super comfortable and feels like you’re wearing almost nothing at all. Although I wouldn’t wear the bra under most clothes, this is a set that I could easily lounge around in or wear in the bedroom because it is so comfy.

Now, let’s get a close up of those panties! Like the bra, the panties feel great on and feature a really cute hook & eye detail. There’s also a cotton gusset which means you could easily wear these panties all day & night. I wore these under a dress for a night out with my friends & experienced no chafing, pulling or wedgie action. Hooray! Also, they just feel damn sexy.

Sexy Storage Solutions: Say Hello To The Pleasure Purse

The topic of “sex toy storage” is one that comes up in conversation often in my life. Anyone who reads this blog, has probably clued in that I own quite a few toys, lingerie and other sexy time products. People will often ask me, “Where do you keep it all? Also, don’t you currently live with your family?!” When my collection was still on the small side I used to just store my goodies in my bedside drawer. As my sex toy collection grew, I started storing everything in cloth lined boxes under my bed. Now I store everything in a cabinet that looks like a smaller version of this, which I’ve lovingly nicknamed “the tower of power” (because it’s not like you can leave lying around anything that arrived from a website called Top Blow Job Machines.) I love the Tower of Power because it keeps everything organized and out of sight but still easily accessible. However, for my friends who have children, their sexy-time products need to be stored more discretely so that they can’t be accessed by tiny humans, with quizzical minds. Enter the Pleasure Purse – gorgeous leather handbag designed to securely house all of your sexy goodies.

slideshow_1Although I’m pretty content with my current storage situation, I think the Pleasure Purse is a great idea – especially for my friends who are parents (the purse can be secured with lock & key!) Designed by a Canadian couple in Calgary, the Pleasure Purse is perfect for taking on a romantic weekend with someone special or storing your sex toys away from prying hands. When the lovely people at Pleasure Purse offered to send me my very own handbag to try out, I was super excited to feature it on the blog.

One of the things that really impressed me about the Pleasure Purse is how stylish it is in person. The purse is made from real leather and is nicely detailed with silver hardware. It features a double “P” monogram on both the front and the back.

photo-38Secondly, the Pleasure Purse is super roomy. It’s about the size of your average gym bag and fits a lot of stuff (and trust me, I loaded this baby up and it wasn’t even close to maximum capacity!)

photo-40 I love that it has two zipper pouches plus pockets that you can use to hold lube, condoms, massage oil or smaller toys. There’s also plenty of room to fill it with larger toys, lingerie or whatever your sexy little heart desires. You could even fit in a cosmetic bag and a change of clothes if necessary. I also love that it has leopard print lining.
But wait, there’s more!

What Writers Wear: Statement Necklaces

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

The life of a freelance writer isn’t nearly as glamorous as TV shows make it out to be, however occasionally I like to break away from my usual sweats & work-out wear and dress up a bit.

I’m a Virgo who doesn’t like fussy clothes, so I like to keep my wardrobe pretty simple. I like lots of grey, black, white, & stripes, with some animal print thrown in for good measure. When the lovely people at Majestical Jewelry offered to send me one of their statement necklaces I was thrilled. Because I tend to live in basics, a gorgeous statement necklace allows me to kick an outfit up a notch with minimal effort. When you work from home and run your own business, “easy” is key!

A few weeks later, this gorgeous Leaf Bib Necklace arrived on my doorstep, along with a matching pair of earrings. Although the website describes the colour of the beads as “pink” they’re actually a gorgeous red with just a hint of coral. Whether it’s lingerie, clothing or shoes, when I do wear colour red is one of my favourites. (How they knew this piece would be perfect for me, I have no idea – but it is. I blame magic.)

What really impressed me about the piece is how high quality it is. Statement necklaces are everywhere these days and cheap imitations abound. This necklace is the real deal. The beads are gorgeous, it has a nice weight to it without being heavy, and it sits flat on your body without a lot of twisting & shifting when you move.

I had a lot of fun styling this piece and found it surprisingly versatile. To show you guys how I would wear it, I’ve come up with four different looks for you.

See, I wasn’t kidding when I said that I love stripes. As you can see, I’ve just barely mastered taking a selfie so I won’t be launching a career as a fashion blogger any time soon. However, sometimes it’s just fun to review something completely gorgeous and G-rated for a change.

What do you guys think?

*I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Show & Tell | Bettie Page Wild and Willing Wrist Cuffs

As we speak I’m currently recovering from a brutal cold/flu that I picked up in Vegas – my fourth trip there in 3 years! But, more on that later. Before I spill the details about my trip, I thought I’d take this opportunity to share with you guys some of the awesome products that have landed on my desk recently.

Not many people know this, but I’ve always been a Bettie Page fan. I’ve had a girl crush on her ever since I stumbled across some of her pin-up photos when I was 14 or 15. Although I was already a fan of famous blondes like Marilyn Monroe and Madonna, what drew me to Bettie was that she was a brunette – just like me. I also loved how in some photos she looked sexy and playful – almost like the girl next-door – whereas, in others she looked like a fierce, vixen. Naughty but nice, shy yet daring, it was Bettie Page’s intriguingly contradictory character that earned her the title of ‘The Queen of Pin Ups.” She’s since become synonymous with the 1950’s pin-up and fetish photo scene.

I didn’t really know that much about Bettie until I watched  The Notorious Bettie Page – the 2005 bio-pic based on her life. I now have an even greater respect for Bettie Page. She had a really hard life, yet you’d never guess from looking at her photos. She was a strong and intelligent woman who did her own thing.

Needless to say, I was really excited when I found out that one of my favourite companies, Lovehoney, had launched a line of Bettie Page Pleasure Products. Really, really excited.

Created exclusively by Lovehoney, the range is the only collection of official sex toys and bondage accessories approved by the late Bettie Page’s estate. Bettie Page not only had a huge influence on the bondage scene, but she also brought an element of glamour to her sexuality that’s still appreciated today. Lovehoney has definitely captured Bettie’s retro-glam vibe in this gorgeous collection of 11 luxury erotic products. The collection includes bondage rope, handcuffs, satin restraints, a lead and collar set, a riding crop and leather bullwhip, spanking paddles, a blindfold, orgasm balm and two different vibrators.

My sex toy collection is quite extensive. So, when the lovely people over at Lovehoney asked me if I’d be interested in reviewing a piece from the Betty Page Pleasure Products collection, I decided to go for something completely outside of my usual comfort zone. Although bondage has never really been my thing, lately I’ve been craving a good set of handcuffs. I’ve never owned any and I figured they’d be a fun piece to add to my collection, just in case I might need them at some point :). Enter the Bettie Page “Wild and Willing” Faux Leather Wrist Cuffs.

Not me. However, I wish I everything else in this photo was mine - including the ability to do gorgeous retro make-up and hair.

Designed for “comfortable restraint”, these luxurious wrist cuffs are made of ultra soft padded, faux leather and lined with black velvet. They are finished with silver metal fittings and detachable chain.

You can adjust the cuff circumference between 5.7 – 9 inches to achieve a pinch-free fit in any position. Quick release clips extend from 2 fully rotatable D-rings to allow limited movement, while the metal chain links the cuffs and restricts your partner, offering no more than 7 inches between each wrist.

Although I haven’t had a chance to try these with a partner, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable these cuffs are. The silver buckles and structured design of the cuffs makes you feel restrained yet supported, while the soft velvet lining feels nice & soft against the skin.

From what I was able to tell, these cuffs are perfect for anyone who is looking to add some sexy restraint play into their bedroom activities, but doesn’t want to have to deal with the discomfort of chaffing during play. I imagine that with these “Wild and Willing” cuffs you could just lay back and enjoy the ride.

I know that it’s “what’s inside that counts”, but I can’t write this review without mentioning the gorgeous packaging of this line. It truly blew me away. My wrist cuffs arrived in a stunning, black velvet lined box featuring a bunch of Bettie’s famous pin-up photos. Included in the box was also a Bettie Page trading card and keychain charm. As someone who loves all things retro, sexy and vintage, I have to say I’m kind of in love with the effort that was put into designing such nice packaging. Usually I just recycle the packaging that my adult products come in, but I’ll definitely be keeping this box for storage.

So that you get an idea of what the cuffs look like on a real person, I took a few snap shots. Drumroll, please!

Shop My Closet | Blogger Fashion Week – Dec. 9th-15th

It’s no secret that I love clothes and all things fashion related, however for the New Year I’ve decided to minimize ever-growing collection of clothing & accessories. My life style on the West Coast is way different than it was when I lived in Toronto, so there are some things that I just don’t need anymore. More yoga leggings, yes. A bazillion cocktail dresses, not really.

Luckily, the website Trend Trunk has asked me to participate in the first ever Blogger Fashion Week taking place December 9th-15th. One Week. Over 70 different bloggers. A whole lotta fashion.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Trend Trunk is a super fab website where you can cash in your closet by selling clothing & accessories that you don’t wear. Blogger Fashion Week  is currently taking place online and throughout the week you’ll have the chance to shop the closets of 70 different bloggers…including me!

You can actually shop my closet any time, however Tuesday December 10th will be “my day” when I am featured on the site. I spent Saturday morning photographing and uploading some of my fashion finds for you guys. I’ve included some high-end designer items from Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Marni, J. Brand & Edun, as well as some vintage pieces and goodies from my favourite stores like Aritzia, Joe Fresh, J. Crew and H & M. Feel free to be as nosy as you’d like & take a browse!

Unfortunately, Trend Trunk is currently only open to Canadians. However, if you see something you like in my closet, email me and we can work something out.

I’m so excited and honoured to be participating in Blogger Fashion Week and look forward to it becoming a yearly tradition!

(PS. My closet will remain online & I’ll be adding new pieces regularly, so stay tuned!)
