Show & Tell | Pink Satin, Orange Lace & Spring Blossoms.

The Spring of 2014 will be remembered as “The Season of All The Pink Lingerie” From hot pink to deep magenta, a bunch of my favourite companies have come out with some gorgeous lingerie pieces in yes, you guessed it – pink – for this season. Just recently, I reviewed the Yes Master Bra & Thong Set and the Charnos Cherub Bra – both of which are awesome. Now, I have another gorgeous set to add into the mix.

Meet the Bluebella “Millie” Satin and Lace Bra and “Millie” Shorts. When I found out the lovely people at Lovehoney were going to send me this bra & panty set to review, I was tickled pink – literally. Looking at the photos, I could tell right away that this lingerie pairing was right up my alley. The Millie Bra & Shorts have a sexy, retro inspired look that I love, plus it totally looks like the kind of set you could easily wear everyday. Also, after reviewing this camisole and shorts set, I’m a big fan of Bluebella products.

One of the first things I noticed when I received these two pieces, was how bright and richly vibrant they are in person. The product photos really don’t do them justice. Both the bra and the shorts are made of a “Skinny Dip”-ish bright pink satin material trimmed with orange lace. Some people may find the combination of orange and pink garish, however I really like it. It works. It’s bright & fun & kind of reminds me of a sunset.

Cut like a pair of cheeky boy-short panties, the Millie Shorts are made of ultra soft pink mesh material with a seamed, pink satin panel on the front. The front panel definitely gives them a unique look. When I first took the panties out their box, my ever-critical sister was in the room and remarked, “UGH! What is up with the  stitching on the front?! It looks like a jock-strap!” Originally I thought these panties were really pretty, however as soon as she mentioned the word “jock-strap” that was all I could think of. JOCK STRAP. JOCK STRAP. JOCK STRAP.

I’m glad I got that out of my system though, because as it turns out, these panties totally rock. I was worried that because of the design, they’d give me a frontal wedgie. However, these are some of the most comfortable panties I have ever owned. I’m happy to report that there is zero wedgie action (in the front or back) and they don’t look anything like a male protective undergarment when on. Hooray! Here’s a close up of the panties.

I was equally as impressed with the Millie Satin and Lace Bra. It’s made of the same pink satin material as the panties and is trimmed with lovely orange lace. It’s very lightly padded and has an underwire.

Like the panties, the bra has some unique details that really sets it apart from the crowd. The v-patterned stitching on the cups of the bra give it a luxe, vintage-y feel that I totally love. Look at those perfect V’s on the cups! I swoon.

Lingerie Review | The Charnos Cherub Bra from Ohhh Canada

One of the things I wasn’t expecting when I entered my 30’s was how much my body would change. I’ve always had a fairly large chest for my frame, however over the past two years or so my boobs have gone from a C cup to a DD. Maybe that’s TMI, but it’s the truth. I didn’t have surgery and I haven’t had any children, so I attribute most of the increase to weight gain, lifting more weights at the gym and well, my body just changing. I’m trying my best to embrace this change. The downside is that a lot of my favourite bras no longer fit. Needless to say, I was super excited and grateful when the lovely Katrina from Ohhh Canada sent me this gorgeous bra from Charnos to try (thank you!!)

This stunning specimen of magenta lace is part of the Cherub Bra and Briefs set by designer UK lingerie company Charnos. The bra and panty set are designed and manufactured in Europe. The Cherub Bra is lightly padded with an underwire for extra oomph and features delicate see-through lace details along the top and straps. The overall look of the bra is sultry and classic…and the colour, oh the colour! When I posted the photo below on Instagram a bunch of you freaked out over the gorgeousness of this bra – and rightfully so!

I know what you guys are probably thinking: “Hey, Simone. Didn’t you just review another pink bra a few weeks ago?!” Yes, yes I did. However, this one is different – I swear. Unlike the Yes Master Bra which is more of a boudoir piece (to be worn in the bedroom), the Cherub Bra is an ultra-supportive everyday bra that just happens to also be ridiculously sexy.

Although I love the Yes Master bra, this is by far a much sturdier and supportive bra. The quality is really awesome. I love the nice, thick straps with a gorgeous lace detailing along the edges.

Show & Tell | Lingerie That Will Make You Say “Yes Master!”

I spend an inordinate amount of time online looking at beautiful lingerie. The fact that I have a Pinterest board called “Lacey, Racy and Gorgeous” is proof of this. There’s something about nice lingerie – in particular lingerie with a vintage, retro vibe – that I find really beautiful. Although I’m a general admirer of all things lacy and gorgeous, ever so often I’ll see a lingerie piece that makes me go, “OMG, I MUST HAVE THAT ON MY BODY!”

This was my exact reaction when I first laid eyes on the gorgeous La Luna Bra & Thong set by Yes Master while browsing one of my favourite websites, Ohhh Canada. I’m not sure if it’s the 1950’s pin-up meets bondage styling of the set or the fact that it matches my blog (After all, one should always match one’s underwear to one’s blog. Just kidding. Unless you’re me.) but I have been smitten with this set ever since. Because the people at  Ohhh Canada really are wonderful, they kindly offered to send me my very own set to try. (Thank you!!) One word to describe this bra and panty set now that I have it in my hands: luxurious. The La Luna Bra & Thong set by Yes Master is made of ultra soft bright pink stretch silk with black mesh trim & straps. Although silk is one of my favourite fabrics for clothing, I’ve never actually owned any silk lingerie…but let me just say, it’s a real treat. The texture is amazing, the colour is incredibly vivid and it just feels super amazing against the skin- I love it!

One of the reasons this set looks so unique is because it is made by edgy, fashion forward (& cheekily named) UK lingerie label, Yes Master. Described as a “cult” designer lingerie label, Yes Master was conceived in 2005 by Igor Pacemski, a chemist turned designer. When it comes to creating head-turning, vintage-inspired lingerie with and edgy, modern twist, clearly Pacemski knows how to combine the right elements. From wild colours, feathers, to this collection Ziggy Stardust lingerie (that I can’t help but think my pal Apocalypstick would love…), Yes Master seems particularly adept at making lingerie that’s the perfect mix of sexy and downtown cool. Previous collections have been described as “Silver Screen and Rock’n’Roll Dreams” which I think sums up their aesthetic perfectly.

To give you an idea, here are a few other looks from Yes Master – one of which is a previous version of the La Luna set in a blue colour scheme. (And yes, I added a heart to disguise a nip slip in an attempt to keep this vaguely work-friendly.)

When it comes to my gorgeous neon La Luna set, both the bra and the underwear are made really beautifully. As you can see, the bra features really cool retro-inspired seam detailing on the cups with a black mesh overlay. The straps are comfortably thick and are also trimmed in black velvet.

The thong features an asymmetrical mesh insert pattern which makes it really unique. And, unlike some of the thongs I’ve reviewed in the past, this thong is super comfy and the kind of piece you could easily wear everyday. Yay!

Here’s another close-up of the gorgeous seam detailing on the bra. I love the intricate and unique design of this set.

Show & Tell | Some Like it Hot

Red has been one of my favourite colours for a long time. When I was a tween I was super obsessed with this Canadian TV show called Street Legal – Canada’s answer the LA Law.  My favourite character was Olivia Novak – a whip smart, tough as nails, young attorney with a penchant for red power suits. I was mildly obsessed with Olivia, because here was a female character who not only had brains and sex appeal, but refused to take BS from anyone – something I had never seen on TV before. Those red power suits must have made an impression on me because, since then I’ve associated the colour red with sex appeal and power. Red is bold in it’s simplicity. It speaks for it’s self.

So, it’s probably not surprising that I’ve been looking to add a really nice red bustier to my lingerie collection for a while. I’ve had my eyes on the Some Like it Hot Bustier and Thong set by Seven Til Midnight for over a year. When the lovely people at Lovehoney offered to send me one to try I was so excited!

The Some Like it Hot Bustier & Thong Set has all the appeal of a corset without the potential discomfort. Made with bright red stretch lace, this set features lightly padded underwire cups and plastic boning to give the illusion of a more defined hourglass shape without manipulating your body with uncomfortable waist reduction. Instead of straps, the bustier has a flirty halter necktie which gives you a slight push-up effect in the boob area. The bustier features ruffle trim, detachable bow detailed garters and a hook & eye closure at the back. There’s also a little diamond studded detail on the bust (something that could easily be removed if diamonds aren’t your jam.) It also comes in a plus sizes.

Tow things really surprised me about this piece. First of all, it’s a bit more ruffly than I expected from the photo. This doesn’t bother me, however if you don’t like ruffles it might be an issue for you. Secondly, it’s incredibly soft. As I’ve mentioned before, when you’re ordering lingerie online you never quite know exactly what you’ll get. I’d prepared myself for the fact that this might be one of those pieces that looks gorgeous in the photos but is super stiff & itchy in person. However, in reality the red lace is really stretchy and extremely soft to the touch, making for a very comfortable fit.

Although the Some Like it Hot Bustier & Thong Set exceeded my expectations upon arrival, I found the hook and eye closure at the back a little awkward to do up solo. I flipped the bustier around and did up as much of the bustier as I could from the back, however I had to ask my Mom to help me do up the last few hooks & eyes. Yes, my Mom. Nothing kills the sexy vibe like having your Mom help you into your lingerie. It’s times like these when I really appreciate lingerie with zippers.

Awkward hooks & eyes aside, this piece has something that many lingerie sets don’t: a decent pair of panties. No weird cloth triangle & glorified dental floss here folks. The Some Like it Hot Bustier Set comes with a normal looking thong that is ultra soft, covers your lady bits and is comfortable to boot. I actually like the thong so much that I’ve worn it a couple of times on it’s own.

Also, I should probably mention that the bow details on the detachable garters are really, really pretty. The set doesn’t come with stockings, but you could easily match most stockings to this set.

Now for the moment of truth! What does it actually look like on?!

Show &Tell | Wild at Heart

It’s no secret that I love leopard print. I wear my beloved leopard print pyjamas so much that my family actually staged an intervention. Between my pyjamas, lingerie, a dress, some smoking slippers, a gorgeous purse and a pair of zebra print Michael Kors pumps, my closet is starting to look like a safari. It’s not just me – log on to Pinterest and you’ll find tons of animal print pieces for Fall. Lately, I’ve been looking for something just a bit sexier than my usual animal print pyjamas, so I was super thrilled when Lingerie Canada offered to send me this gorgeous leopard print Kimono, Bralette and Thong Set by Dreamgirl (Thank you!!)

I like to joke around with people that because of my Eastern European heritage, it’s my birthright to wear as much animal print as possible. When done right, a touch of animal print can look really chic. In fact, this quote by Jenna Lyons, the president and creative director of J. Crew, is pretty much my whole fashion philosophy in a nutshell. If the tastemakers at J. Crew give their thumbs up, it must be OK, right?!

With that said, when it comes to animal prints, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. To avoid looking like you’re ready to party with the cast of Jersey Shore, it all comes down to moderation. Although I loved how the lingerie set looked in the product photos, I was worried that maybe a leopard print robe and matching underwear might be too loud. However when I received the set in the mail (and tore open the package excitedly – yay, new underwear!), I was very pleasantly surprised.

The Kimono set set comes with a lace bralette, a lace boys-cut thong and a sheer, animal print chiffon robe. Both the bralette and the thong are made of scalloped stretch lace and trimmed in silky, chiffon leopard print. The bralette has adjustable straps and a hook & eye closure in the back.

No one enjoys nipple itch, so I am happy to report that the lace on the bra is ultra soft and not at all scratchy. Same goes for the thong – it’s actually really comfortable. The lace is super soft and there is zero awkward wedgie action. Unlike some thongs that come with lingerie sets, this thong is anything but flimsy. The boys-cut/hipster style is very comfortable and actually looks & feels super sexy on.

In my opinion there are both “good” and “bad” animal prints. I was pleased to discover the print on the robe was really nice. It’s made of a sheer chiffon material and drapes really nicely.

I love that the bralette and panties are so comfy that I could easily wear them everyday. Although the bralette doesn’t provide that much support (especially if you’re on the bustier side) it’s perfect for wearing around the house while I work and would also look super cute paired with some of my summer tanks that dip low around the arms. Note: I’m a 32C and while I found the bra supportive enough for lounging at home and light wear, women with larger busts might prefer a robe set that comes with an underwire bra or more support.

The robe is super comfortable as well, however it is pretty sheer. Since we’re heading into the colder months in Canada (or “Snuggie Weather” as I like to call it), I will probably save the robe for special occasions or warmer weather.
