Hold the Schmaltz: a V-Day Guide for Badass Ladies

My name is Simone and I’m a single woman that loves Valentine’s Day. I’m not even sorry about it. Without a partner to attend to, the pressure is off and I sit back, relax and enjoy this special time of year when everything magically colour coordinates with my blog layout.

I’m probably going to spend February 14th curled up in bed eating chocolate and watching Showtime’s The Affair (such. a. good. show.) while toasting to my single status. With that said, when the ladies at Unbound reached out to me about curating another Skinny Dip store on their site, I had to say yes. I love their selection of sexy products for bad-ass babes. Whether you love Valentine’s Day or hate it, are partnered or single, here’s some things that are sure to make life just a little bit more fun.

1. Sex Position Colouring Book. Playtime for couples? Uh, I’d totally colour this bad boy solo – preferably with a glass of champagne in hand.

2. Twiggy Venus Symbol Earrings.  I’ve been in love with these gorgeous 18K gold plated earrings for a couple of months now. They’re the perfect accessory for surviving the Trumpocalypse. The earrings are part of the Unbound Collection – a modern jewelry collection that transforms into sexual accessories, inspired by Liz Taylor/Cleopatra, Amelia Earhart & Twiggy (and yes, it’s as fabulous as it sounds!)

3. We-Vibe Tango. As I’ve mentioned many times before, this is one of my favourite vibrators. Sure, it’s small and kind of looks like a lipstick, but it packs a lot of punch. I couldn’t not include it on the list.

4.  Couples Adventure Kit. Want to enjoy 14 days of great sex with your partner? This couples adventure kit takes out the guess work, challenging you & your partner to enjoy a bunch of different sexy surprises for two weeks straight. It includes vibrators, lube, a film from Erika Lust and more! If I had a partner, I’d totally give this a try.

5. Emojibator. My friend Jean brought this to my attention & I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. I have no idea whether it’s actually a good vibrator but the laugh factor makes it worthy of this list. If I was going to buy my single girlfriend a gag gift, it would probably be this.

6. Male Tears Flask. My friend Melissa and I have long joked that we want to get matching engraved flasks, but this is good too. I’ll be drinking out of this flask on Valentine’s Day as a binge on Showtime.

7. Galentine’s Day Box.  Remember that gorgeous vibrator necklace that I wrote about a few years ago? That’s in here along with everything else you need for a sexy night out on the town as a single lady.

8. Pretty undies! This is probably the most stereotypical Valentine’s Day gift idea, but what’s different is that these items are actually comfortable. No tightly bound corsets here, folks (but if you’re into that – that’s cool too!) The Provence Robe is a soft and forgiving robe that also comes in plus sizes. The Naughtie Hotpant by Cosabella is a high quality pair of open crotch boys shorts that are ridiculously comfy (who thought this was possible?) Same goes for this ultra-soft Peekaboo Bralette by Hanky Panky. FYI, I purchased my first Cosabella and Hanky Panky pieces over the holidays and it’s been a revelation in comfort and quality.

9. Love is Art Kit. Even if you think you’ve tried everything in the bedroom, you probably haven’t tried this. Each kit includes everything you need to produce an intimate work of art using nothing more than canvas, paint …and your bodies. I’ll leave it up to you what you’ll say when houseguests compliment your taste in modern art.

How will you be spending February 14th?

Kicking The Holidays Off with a Sexy Gift Guide from Unbound

Now more than ever, I’ve realized how important it is for me to support brands that align with my values. Unbound is one of those brands. You may remember them from a few months ago when I reviewed their Unbound Delta Box (with rave reviews!) Since I wrote that post, I’ve fallen into a full on brand crush with the ladies at Unbound. They’re a 100% a female owned & operated company, they’re sex positive and they’re feminists. And while there’s lots of great sex-positive female business owners out there, Unbound is one that suits my design aesthetic perfectly. Like, if I was going to create a sex store, it would look exactly like theirs – cheeky product photography and all. (Also, can we talk about how I want to buy EVERYTHING from their lingerie section?)

That’s what I’m elated to announce that I’ve partnered with Unbound this holiday season to create a sexy gift guide for you. People are always asking me for suggestions on what to buy for themselves and their partner. This gift guide is chock full of sexy suggestions and my favourite toys. The best part?

Use SIMONEKATRINE25 at checkout to get 25% everything listed below.

(a great deal if you’ve finally decided to pull the trigger on a new pricy vibrator.)

Curious about why I chose these items? Here’s the ‘skinny’ on everything in the gift guide-

1. Follies Bergere Soft Underwire Bra: What I love about this piece is that it’s sexy yet incredibly wearable. Wear it in the bedroom or under a tee, so the straps are semi visible along the neckline.

2. Body Straps: I’m obsessed with this barely there “lingerie” set. Ridiculously sexy and fits a variety of different bodies.

3. Follies Bergere G-String: Unless your partner hates wearing thongs, you can’t really go wrong with a high-quality, simple black g-string. Gartner belt sold separately.

4. Handcuff Bangles: I think the name says it all. I love dual purpose accessories and these are totally bad-ass.

5. Holiday Box: Get your jollies off with this curated Holiday box of sexy goodies. And yes, that’s a candy cane shaped dildo. You’re welcome.

6. The Crave Vesper: You might remember this one from my review of the Crave Vesper. A luxe vibrator that’s also a chic piece of jewelry? Yes, please.

7. We-Vibe Tango: This little bullet vibe is still one of my favourite sex toys, period. It’s compact, ridiculously powerful and perfect for toe-curling, pin-pointed sensations.

8. BDSM Box: Curious about BDSM but not sure where to start? This curated box has got you covered.

9. iScream Dildo: Because this wouldn’t be a Skinny Dip gift guide without at least one item that’s just slightly ridiculous. Freeze this popsicle shaped dildo for temperature play or just use it on it’s own. Perfect for a gag gift or the person in your life that already has everything!

10. Lelo Ina Wave: Read my original review here. The Ina Wave is still one of my favourite toys. Now you can grab one at a discount.

11. Viviane Babydoll: When it comes to buying lingerie online and/or for someone else, I’m a huge fan of pieces that aren’t too structured and have some stretch. This sexy chemise from Oh La La Cheri fits the bill. This would look amazing on a variety of different body types, and it comes in regular and plus size.

12. Womanizer Pro: A terrible name for a sex toy, but a wonderful product. I’ll be reviewing this soon! TLDR: instead of vibrating, this toy “sucks” your clitoris. The end result is delicious and feels like a million sugar plum fairies taking flight.

“Spoil Me” – Lingerie That Will Make You Want To Stay in Bed All Day

Screen Shot 2016-01-30 at 3.35.50 PM

I’ve always been what people like to call “girly” when it comes to my taste in lingerie and sleepwear. As a child, I preferred night gowns in lieu of pyjama pants because I liked the idea of being comfortable and feeling pretty while I slept. When I was 14, I used my Christmas money to buy my first silk nightie and never looked back.

But, despite my taste for all things lacy and silky, I never thought to identify myself as “girly” until an ex-boyfriend used the word to describe me. I was living in Toronto and boy briefs had recently become trendy for women. The guy I was dating at the time was clearly into that American Apparel-esque look, because the first time he saw me in one of my many pairs of lacy, silky underwear he said, “god, you’re so girly, Simone.” It wasn’t a compliment. He thought my love of lingerie was “silly” and a “waste of money.” One afternoon, he took me to this store called Chocky’s that used to be on Spadina. He pointed me towards a 12-pack of Hanes women’s briefs and told me, “you’d have a lot more money if you just bought these.” He didn’t get it and never would, which is why we’re not together.

But, that experience reconfirmed what I already knew: that I like what I like. The lesson here: whether you’re a fan of Hane’s value packs or Agent Provocateur, don’t let the person you’re dating try and sway you. Own it. I do. However, I prefer the term, “grown woman who likes sexy things” to “girly.”

Anyway.

A few years ago, I wrote about updating my sleepwear collection, but, aside from this pyjama review, I haven’t really written much about what I’ve been wearing under the sheets. (Truth is, my sleepwear drawer is once again in need of an update.)

So, when Lovehoney offered to send me a piece from their new lingerie line, I chose this gorgeous “Spoil Me” Satin Babydoll Set in Plum. The funny thing is, it’s been long documented amongst my friends and family that I hate purple clothing. I think the colour looks terrible against my already very pink skin. But, for some reason I was really drawn to this plum coloured set. I fell in love with how bright and vivid the colour looked in the photos. The majority of my lingerie is black, white, pink or red so I thought this would be a nice change of pace.

57734-00

I’ve tried a handful of Lovehoney’s private label lingerie line and every piece has been more impressive than the next. Some of my favourites include the open back panties, the “Adore Me” lace chemise and the “Thrill Me” mesh baby doll (review coming soon.) The “Spoil Me” satin baby doll is no exception. Like the other pieces, the fabric and overall quality is really great. Best of all, it’s super comfortable.

IMG_0366

Let’s take a look at what we have here. The “Spoil Me” Babydoll is made from super soft stretch satin and is trimmed with black lace. It has delicate elastic straps and flirty slits up the side that are also trimmed in black lace & little bows. It comes with a matching thong that is made with the same plum coloured stretch satin.

The fit is very much like in the photo. The bust is fitted but the rest “skims” rather than clings to your body. This makes the piece not only comfortable, but also really flattering. Length wise,  it falls just below the bum on me. (it might fall longer or shorter on you depending on your curves.)

The straps come together in a t-back, which I think is a really fun and modern detail on an otherwise very classic piece.

IMG_0367

IMG_0368

As you can see, the thong is really minimal but it includes a cotton lining so you can wear underneath your regular clothes if you wish. Also, check out those sexy lace trimmed slits!

IMG_0369

IMG_0380

I love how this piece is detailed, but the real winning factor is the material. If you’ve never tried stretch satin, you need to, stat. Unlike some of my other regular satin pieces, this one stretches and moves with your body, which makes it even more comfortable for sleeping in (or doing, uh, other activities I would assume.)

The only potential downside to this piece is the bust doesn’t offer that much support or coverage. It’s about the same as your average string bikini top. I’m a 32DD and while the Small fit perfectly everywhere else, I found I could have used just a little bit more coverage in the boob area. I’m totally OK with the coverage when I’m at home in bed, but I felt a bit exposed when I tried to photograph this piece (hence, the reason you don’t see any full body shots!) If you have a large bust and like your lingerie to be supportive, you might enjoy The Adore Me chemise or one of Lovehoney’s underwire styles more.

IMG_0387

With that said, if comfort is what you’re after the “Spoil Me” is a real treat. It feels super luxurious & sexy and is easily something I could lounge around in while in bed all day. In fact, I think that’s what I’m going to go do right now.

We Tried it | Online Bra Fitting With HerRoom.com

Screen Shot 2015-11-12 at 6.31.51 PM

I’ve yet to meet a woman who says, “I love bra shopping.” As much as I love lingerie, even I kind of hate bra shopping. Finding a bra that fits properly and actually feels sexy, is no small feat – especially if you’re shopping online. Although I do get a lot of lingerie online, the process still is a bit nerve wracking. If the piece doesn’t fit (or worse, makes me look like a tied ham), returning things from Canada can be costly and a huge hassle.

When the people at HerRoom contacted me about trying their online bra fitting feature to help me find the perfect bra I was both excited and skeptical. Could an algorithm really help me find lingerie?

Well, for starters, Herroom is not your average online lingerie retailer. Founded by Tomima Edmark in 1998, HerRoom has grown from bras and panties to swimwear, sleepwear, and intimate apparel and beyond. From petite to plus size they carry over 200 brand names – from Maidenform, Playtex and Wacoal to high-end luxury brands like Agent Provocateur.

One of the things I like best about the site is that they have tons of really great fitting resources, many of which are included in this Seven Bra Fitting Secrets  infographic. Seriously, check it out. There is also lots of other helpful guides and videos in their extensive Bra Fit Center.

What was truly eye-opening was the  Universal Cup Size (UCS) finder. For the ladies out there who are a D cup or larger, have you ever tried bras by different companies and noticed that they fit completely different even though they are labelled as your size? It’s not just you. Sizing can actually vary depending on the company. That’s why HerRoom has an app that helps you find your Universal Cup Size (UCS) (see video below)

To find out your Universal Cup Size, you enter your bra size in your preferred brand (for example, I’m a 32DD at Victoria’s Secret). It will then translate it and display the corresponding size in all major brands.   This way, when you’re shopping you can actually find the right size. Life. Changing. Screen Shot 2015-11-10 at 7.26.06 PM

So, while I’m a 32DD in Victoria’s Secret, I’m a 34E in another brand (and so on..) This has made shopping so much easier.

After taking their Know Your Breasts Bra Finder, which helps you choose the right style of bra for your shape, it was time to choose a bra based on the results.

My intention was to find the perfect black, lacy bra that was also supportive – something that was missing from my lingerie wardrobe. I was also hoping to grab something from the Agent Provocateur collection because it’s a brand that I’ve lusted after forever. However, when I went to the AP page, I realized that while their lingerie is gorgeous & sexy, the bra shapes probably wouldn’t work as well for me as other brands. In the end, I decided on the Le Mystere Isabella All Over Lace Bra in Black.

15_2535_bra_blk_nat_001_basic_fs_013

I would like to go on record and say that this is by far the nicest and most flattering bra I have ever owned. It’s beautifully made and fits me exactly like in the photo.. This is my perfect bra. GOOD JOB SCIENCE!

FullSizeRender-5

Le Mystere Isabella All Over Lace Bra is gorgeously detailed and features a black lace overlay atop of nude cups. I’m absolutely in love with the two-toned nude & black straps!

FullSizeRender-6

Functionality-wise, this bra has everything that I look for: lined cups without extra padding, thick supportive straps and a wide band in the back. It’s also shockingly comfortable. It’s rare that you find a bra that makes you feel both supported and sexy. This is that bra for me.

FullSizeRender-7

Along with being what is arguably the best bra I’ve ever owned, it’s also the most expensive. The Le Mystere Isabella All Over Lace Bra retails for around $12o Canadian, however HerRoom currently has it on special for $69 Canadian (probably less if you’re shopping from the States.)

While more expensive than your average bra; the quality of this piece is undeniable. It’s beautifully finished, made of gorgeous materials, designed with function in mind (supportive straps & a thick band = swoon!) and comfortable to boot. Honestly, I couldn’t have dreamed up a better bra if I’d tried.

FullSizeRender-9

If most of your bra shopping trips end with drowning your woes in frozen yogurt and waffles in the food court (um, I’ve been there), I highly suggest you give HerRoom’s Know Your Breasts Bra Finder and Universal Cup Size (UCS) app a try. It’s changed the way I shop for bras and if anything, will make your next lingerie shopping excursion much less frustrating. Hey, you might even find your very own “perfect bra.”

Review | The Lovehoney Adore Me Lace Chemise Set

ADORE ME 1

Summer always seems to be the time when all my reviews get backlogged. I blame it on having too much fun in the sun! I promise I will get back to more dating & relationship stories soon, however in the mean time I have more gorgeous lingerie to share with you.

Last year, Lovehoney launched their own lingerie line. Before Christmas, I reviewed this scandalous pair of crotchless panties and recently purchased this piece (more on this later!) Since then, I’ve been curious to try other pieces from the line. When the lovely people at Lovehoney offered to send me another piece from the collection, I jumped at the chance. The problem: I couldn’t decide what to choose. However, after a quick survey on Facebook and Instagram (thanks!), this gorgeous red & black lace chemise from their Adore Me collection, was the winner.

56317-00

56317-07

I’m very, very happy I decided to review the Lovehoney Adore Me Lace and Microfiber Chemise because it has everything I look for in a lingerie piece: it’s good quality, flattering, affordable and most of all, really comfortable.

The Adore Me Lace & Microfiber chemise is made of silky soft, crimson microfiber and trimmed with black stretch lace. It features adjustable straps, detachable garters and soft, unlined cups – perfect for those of us who prefer their lingerie without an underwire or extra padding. The back has a adjustable criss-cross back detail and cute, butt flattering ruching. It includes a matching g-string with a back detailed in black lace.

IMG_0322

Here’s a few things I love about this set.

  • The quality and detailing – As I’ve mentioned before, when it comes to ordering affordably priced lingerie online, unless you’re really familiar with the brand, you can’t always count on the quality. With that said, I was really impressed with the thought that was put into this garment. It’s well designed and the detailing is nice – no cheap fabric or loose threads here!
  • The thick, stretchy straps – As someone with D+ sized boobs, I love garments with thick straps. The straps on the Adore Me Lace & Microfibre chemise are great: they’re super soft, stretchy and supportive without digging into my shoulders. I was concerned that this garment might not offer enough support, but I am happy to report that my boobs feel secure.
  • The fit –  This chemise fits me like a second skin. The fabric is soft, super stretchy hugs in the right places without clinging. I put it on and my immediate response was “yep, I feel good in this.”
  • It’s non-restrictive – Unlike the black bustier I recently reviewed which is very structured, the Adore Me Chemise set doesn’t restrict your movement in any way. In other words, if you want to get it on while wearing this garment you totally can.
  • The matching thong doesn’t suck – It’s nicely detailed and totally wearable.
  • It’s really sexy but feels like I’m in yoga-wear – Enough said.

Now for the big reveal!
