About Me

Hi! My name is Simone and Skinny Dip is my blog about life, love, sex, relationships and everything in between.

I’m a 30-something, who spent 12 years living in Toronto and has recently returned to her sleepy hometown on the West Coast of Canada in search of a change of pace.

I have a BA in Anthropology – a degree that as it turns out, has very little use in the real world. However, some people may argue that I’ve applied my anthropological research skills to my dating experiences, consciously or unconsciously seeking out every bizarre situation possible with the same kind of optimistic curiosity that Dian Fossey possessed while hanging out with the gorillas. Everyone has a friend that they consider “a certified weirdo magnet”. I’m that friend.

I started this blog so I would have a place to tell stories and sort through the romantic wreckage of my 20’s. The more I write, the more I realize that all my experiences happened for a reason: so I would be able to share all the gory details with strangers online. I decided to name this blog Skinny Dip because I thought “skinny dipping” was a good metaphor for writing about your life online – it’s naked, it’s scary but also a hell of a lot of fun.

I love good music, good food and a stiff martini. I read voraciously and own way too many shoes. I really love shoes.

When I’m not over-sharing on the Internet, I work as a freelance writer and my work has appeared on The Huffington Post, Elle Canada, Canadian Living, 29 Secrets, 20-Something.ca and Twenties Hacker . You can also find me over at Slice.ca where I am a contributing writer.

My dream is to write a book, turn it into a TV show and invent a time machine so I can teleport 1980’s Winona Ryder circa the movie “Heathers”, to play me. It will totally happen. I just need help with the time machine.
